Ode to Newark

A hidden gem in Newark, California, Mel Nunes Skatepark is coveted by all skaters in the Bay Area. Its smooth concrete and buttery coping inspires all to drop in regardless of skill. To commemorate the night time skating here, I storyboarded, 3D modeled, and animated this visual poem.

Visual Development

The story I crafted shows Newark emerging from a pool of a midnight blue being struck by someone's lost wheel. I wanted to emulate the smoothness of the park's concrete and experience through how the park unfolds itself. To allow the viewer to insert themselves regardless of their equipment, I focused on showing the park and its environmental contexts alone.
